What better way to display a striking image of Elim Beach’s Colored Sands Cliffs, than on a custom state of the art colour poster.
This breathtakingly vibrant landscape is available in four sizes, a multi application18x12' or make a real statement with the incredible 36x24” that will make a feature of any wall or alcove.
Featured in every “to do” or “been there” guide to North Queensland’s Cape York, these amazing colored cliffs rise from a stunning white sands beach, at the end of a somewhat challenging 4wd only road, about 1/3 of the way up the cape.
The only information we could find about the colored sands was that the colors are due to the different amounts of Iron Oxides mixed in with the Silica of the sand, but where the oxides come from, or what creates the variety in their concentration seems to be a bit of a mystery.
But information about Crocodiles and Snakes and other Malevolent Locals abounded, especially around water, and we did a couple of fairly deep river crossings with our little group of 4x4’s tied together in a bit of a Daisy Chain so no one had to wade out to attach a recovery strap in case of mishap or misadventure.
The trip up “The Cape” is one of Australia’s iconic 4x4 adventures, and we were there to tick off a long held bucket list item with a group of other Kiwi offroading friends.
Keep an eye out for a few more images from this part of Australia’s wild country.
