The Plants are a mixture of natural beauty, environmental problem and traffic hazard. In flowering season the vista just stops tourist traffic dead. Often right in the middle of the road.

One of the lesser known, and so unexpected, sights along this section of the great southern lakes highway, the flowers appear as a burst of colour, just above Lake Tekapo, in the famed Southern Alps that make up the spine of New Zealand's South Island.

Spread by a colonial settler over 100 years ago, who threw “Seed Bombs” out of her car while traversing the area, the lupins are threatening native species in some areas.

Situated in the McKenzie "dark sky country" the plants are yet another attraction amongst the lakes, rivers and mountains of this incredible landscape! Soft camera focus produces a dreamy visual introduction to the vivid coloring of the print.
