Possibly the ultimate form of wall décor, this stunning canvas is made and printed by the best canvas specialist we could find, and makes a masterpiece of Dena’s image.

These gold mining tailings add an extra spectacular feature to the already spectacular views from the top of Mount Buster, in Otago, New Zealand.

They were created by the sluicing process of gold extraction that occurred in the late 1800's as part of the great South Island Gold Rush.

The truly fascinating aspect of them, apart from the conditions the miners had to endure to chase the gold up in these exposed mountains, is that the sand has, at some time in the distant past been at sea level, and pushed up over a thousand meters by the tectonic forces that created the entire South Island.

On these highlands, the prospectors were subjected to temperatures as low as -15 degrees centigrade, 2 meter deep snow, and winds of over 120 kilometers per hour over the winter months. The cemetery at nearby Hamilton's Diggings bears testament to the toll the hunt for gold took.

Coming up the access track through early morning low cloud we had no idea what we were about to come across.
The cloud cleared to this view just as we reached the top, the whole group was mesmerised.

The line-up of vehicles are parked on the "beach" area beside the huge water filled hole that marks the actual mine that all that sand (and gold) came from.

Available in 5 sizes, from a compact 18x12” that makes a great little gift to a superb 48x32” that will add a statement to any wall, and stop your friends and neighbours in their tracks!

The canvas comes with back hanging already included for convenient placement, and is produced with a mirroring print around the edges, so it looks great without framing, and is built solid enough not to need it.
What a superb house warming gift.

We were there with a group of Four Wheel Drivers who were exploring the local mountain tops as part of a week long fundraiser tour of the area, to raise money for the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

As with all our images this vivid photo is exactly as it came off the camera, it hasn't been edited or enhanced in any way, it absolutely reflects the essence of the place.
The image may possibly have been cropped to fit the printers parameters.
