Captured in all it's glory this perfect Rhododendron was the self appointed feature flower of a clump of the plants in a grove beside a walking and cycle trail in the Waihi Gorge, just out of Geraldine in South Canterbury, In New Zealand's South Island.
Posing beside the Waihi River, the plant caught Dena's eye as we were walking upstream from our campsite towards the Waihi Rapids, the real reason for our visit.
Just a few miles from civilization the camp offers a real outdoors adventure with the final part of the drive down an access track that has had some bigger RV drivers scratching their heads.
Our preferred spot involves us using the Jeep's winch to position the caravan on a small flat area right beside the river. It has raised a few eyebrows!
