Waihi's Wilderness walk takes its visitors along the banks of the Waihi River up through these cold and damp planted glades, native reserves and boulder strewn river crossings up into the Four Peaks National Park of the South Canterbury highlands, in New Zealand's South Island.
From here the serious tramper could even find themselves in the heart of the Southern Alps
